QUESTIONS, ANSWERS & TIPS...

What do I need to do to join a class?

  • Firstly, please get in touch to say hello and let me know which class you would like to join.

  • For a new starter joining an established class, I recommend that you have an introductory session.   We go through the basic principles and movements in Pilates making it easier for you to slot into the class.  The session helps us both  understand what you can do and I can assess whether I need to adapt any of the exercises for you.  The session is on a 1:1 basis and costs £30.

  • Enrolment Form - All clients need to complete an enrolment form before starting the class.  This helps me make sure that classes will be appropriate and lets me know if I need to adapt any of the exercises for individual clients.  Here is the form .  Once you are a client it is important to let me know of any changes to your medical background (eg illness, injuries, pain, pregnancy) so that I can adapt your exercise plan if necessary.

How do the on-line classes work - what do I need?

In order to join my live on-line classes you will need:

  • A computer with a camera & microphone - lap tops seem to be the easiest to use but you can also use a pc, tablet/ipad or smart phone.  You will need sufficient internet connection to play live video.

  • Space where you have got room around you (stood up & laid on the floor) to open your arms out to the side & above your head.  You will need a mat (or something to lie on) and a small head cushion or folded towel to support your head

I use Zoom for my on-line classes.  If this is the first time you have used Zoom, check out my guide to joining your class via Zoom

I will send you an invite with a link to join the class.  My classes are password protected to keep them secure and safe.

I teach by describing and demonstrating the exercises & watching you doing them so I need to be able to see you!  Ideally, I need to be able to see you:

  • stood up

  • a side view of you lying down

I do demonstrate the exercises so they are easier for you to follow. You will need to be able to hear me and see me – please check your volume settings/speakers to ensure you can hear me OK.

Do I have to do the classes in blocks?

My classes are structured in blocks to help you build your skill week on week and by committing to regular practice you are more likely to experience the benefits of Pilates.

If you are not able to attend a particular week you have a few options to catch up your missed session:

  • For on-line classes, you can join another on-line session or else  have a recording of the session you have missed.

  • For face to face classes, you can join another face to face class or join an on-line session.

I don't offer credits for missed classes except in exceptional circumstances (eg serious injury/illness or bereavement)

If you know in advance that you will not be able to attend a full block and wont have the opportunity to catch up, you can do classes on a 'drop in' basis.  Please ask me for more details.

Finally some top tips...

  • For class, wear something you can move easily in and feel comfortable in (eg leggings, tracksuit bottoms, t shirt) but not too baggy or bulky (so I can see you move!).

  • We work in either bare feet or socks.

  • I recommend that you don’t eat in the hour before the class!

  • Needless to say, please let me know if you are feeling at all unwell before starting or during a class.
