ABOUT PILATES

Joseph Pilates developed a method of exercising that builds strength without bulk and balances that strength with flexibility.  Originally used by dancers, gymnasts and sports people the method has been developed now to suit almost anyone from first time exercisers, those suffering with back & posture related pain through to elite sports people wanting to improve strength & performance.

In Pilates we target deep postural muscles, building strength and mobility. It can help reshape your body to become leaner and stronger.  The focused movement builds strength and confidence to move and can be particularly effective at helping to manage joint pain.   Practicing Pilates builds concentration and co-ordination which calms and focuses the mind and which in turn can  help manage anxiety and lack of confidence.

MY STORY

I am a Pilates teacher based in the Highlands, Scotland - teaching classes and private sessions locally.

I came to Pilates as a client whilst working in a stressful corporate role alongside a passion for cycling and running.  A combination of long hours at a desk and tough physical effort in my spare time left my body desperately needing some care and attention. Luckily I found a great teacher and was immediately converted to the benefits of Pilates.  I felt stronger, became more toned and was much more aware of my posture and how I moved. I also discovered how Pilates could help relieve tension and calm stress.

When I left the corporate world, learning more about Pilates was a natural next step. With over a year of studying and gaining experience working under the supervision of some fabulous teachers throughout the UK, I qualified as a matwork teacher with leading Pilates organisation Body Control Pilates.
